These were all photographs that I took while piloting a DJI Mavic Air in various locations around Houston and Austin. Being a drone pilot was a mixture of nerve-racking anxiety and adrenaline. On one hand, the photographer in me was elated to take to the skies and push my imagination and creativity to its limits, but another part of me was mortified at the dangers of flying recklessly and getting lost in capturing video/images. It was a constant struggle for me to be responsible and be an artist at the same time, so, I’ve taken a hiatus from flying. As much as I enjoyed it, it was too much stress for me to to safely fly in really tight urban areas around town. The airspace was often crowded from other pilots and the threat of helicopters and small craft planes forced me to suspend my flights. Before I gave in to the fear, this is what I was able to capture! I may fly again one day—time will tell.
